Fall prevention Ten-combos
Fall Prevention Exercise for the Elderly is a series of exercises specifically designed for elderly. It is designed by orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, and Tai Chi masters. The suitability of this exercise is based on human biomechanics, and physiological point of views which are considered to be good for elderly to practise. The advantages of this specifically-designed exercise:
- Strengthen lower limbs muscles, which in turns increase lower limb muscle power and endurance
- Improve joint and muscle proprioception sense, upper limbs and lower limbs coordination and reaction
- Improve balance
- Increase bone growth, which in turns slow down the deterioration of bone mass loss for prevention of osteoporosis
- Increase flexibility of upper limbs, agility of both upper and lower limbs
As this exercise is very gentle, slow and easy to learn, it is very suitable for elderly to learn and practise regularly. We have incorporated this exercise into VCD and sent them to community centers as a learning medium of exercise teaching. Moreover, we would arrange exercise practical session with Tai Chi masters as tutors for elderly trainers during “Train-the-Trainers” course organized by us. After learning this exercise, it is encouraged for elderly trainers to promote or even teach this exercise in their community centers so that more elderly would gain benefit from it.
